Where Is Steven Avery Now?

Steven Avery, an American criminal from Mentowoc County, Wisconsin, is currently serving a life sentence at Fox Lake Correctional Institution. Avery has faced several controversial cases in his life, including one of sexual assault and attempted murder in 1985, in which he was wrongfully convicted. After serving an eighteen-year sentence, he was acquitted in 2003 through DNA testing, but was again implicated in a murder case in 2005.
In 2005, Avery was arrested for the murder of Teresa Halbach, a Wisconsin photographer. The case gained widespread attention, and in 2007 Avery was sentenced to life in prison, with no possibility of parole. Subsequently, several appeals were made against the case, but they did not achieve any success. Avery’s case was further popularized by the 2015 Netflix documentary series “Making a Murderer,” which exposed the complexities of the case to the world.
As of today, Steven Avery’s legal team is trying to start a new case for him. The case has raised many questions in the U.S. justice system, especially regarding wrongful convictions. A criminal justice reform bill was also enacted in Wisconsin after Avery’s case, to avoid future wrongful convictions. However, Avery remains in jail as of this time, and legal proceedings on his case are ongoing.
